That's what I mean. I can do it with my Amex Blue Cash and have done it, but I have yet to be able to do it with my Amex Platinum. I have tried to do it, but the Amex site won't let me do it. I may have to go through my bank to do it. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

Micro payments ? do you mean multiple payments to your card between billing cycles ? If so, I have made multiple payments, i.e. buy something today, pay if off tomorrow in full. If, not please explain.........

What I would do (if you decide to upgrade) is for the first month, keep the charges very low so you can factor in the annual fee for that month. Because I did use the card quite frequently and it kind of messed up my whole payment methods with all of my other cards. I have noticed with the Amex charge cards is that you can't do micro payments before your statement cuts like you can if you have an Amex CC. The other thing that I have noticed is that with my Amex CC is that I have more time to come up with the money to pay in full when the bill comes and an Amex charge, you have two weeks.

Smcc, are you converting to the Platinum or thinking about getting the Platinum card?

Eldarwen, that's what I needed confirmation on (amt of Annual Fee requested on next bill). My "means to the way" sort of speak was to put away money every month on my Gold Card until I had a $450 credit limit and then apply. Then the first bill would absorb my credit balance and I would be good to go.

Anyway, AMEX sent me the following:

  • Free "airline companion ticket" voucher
  • $100 restaurant voucher redeemable in $25 increments
  • million dollar sweepstake invitation
Now I thought the Ticket Voucher was bogus and called them on it. Its for real but has its potholes, i.e. blackout dates, advanced booking, select cities, etc.. The voucher is cool, again based on if the restaurants you frequent take these coupons.

calvindai, I hate to tell you this but NO ONE will increase your limit if your current scores are low. As far as Amex's customer service, I have had no issue with them be it on the phone, or thru their site. I understand the "long story" and we all here at financeglobe are on a "don't need to know" basis anyway and everyone has their good/bad stories with AMEX.

For me, Amex is a mixed bag. They have given me a CLD when I had the regular Blue card, the reason that I keep my Amex Blue Cash open is for utilization purposes and for history. They have let me convert products 3 times over the past two years. I converted the blue card to the clear and now I am on the blue cash. I had the Green charge card, but have recently gotten the Amex Platinum. Amex is a law unto themselves.

My statement for the Platinum has cut today. For me, the annual fee is on my first statement of the Platinum. It was prorated and when all is said and done, my annual fee is $400. I don't know how they figured out that number, I am going to have to look at my statement again, but wanted to let all of you know.

Why not?

1st of All, they had lied to me {too long story to explain}..I don't appreciate dishonesty. I'm calling to cancel my creditsecure with them today and move to either Equifax or Transunion..AMEX works closely with Experian (FYI)
2nd, they will drive you nuts with their poor customer service in INdia (Gurantee)
3rd, they won't ever increase your CL if you got low Fico score or crap in your CR.

GoodLuck

The Platinum card is really sharp looking and it's classy. I will admit that upgrading to a Platinum was a little bit of an ego thing. How many 26 year olds have an Amex Platinum and can say that they didn't have to be an authorized user on mommy or daddy's card?

I feel you Eldarwen, there's nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for being responsible and disciplined. Sometimes you have to do something for no reason other than to prove that you could do it.

That's true in the case of some creditors and people. There are still a lot of responsible people who've had their lines slashed or accounts closed for no reason other than residing in the wrong geographical location. Hope is still alive, however, for you Amex adorers :innocent:.

This just goes to show you that even in this down turned economy, if you have been doing the right thing, i.e. paying on time, keeping debt low or at zero and sustaining this work ethic that you can still either upgrade/achieve a substantial CLI or garner a tier one card. And for those who are on track and who will weather this storm, the light is still at the end of the tunnel and the Amex Platinum/Visa Signature/Accolade and of course the Black Card will still be out there to be had.

Their gold cards look very classy and elegant to me. I've never seen the platinum card other than on the internet so I can't speak on them.
