I was thinking Eldarwen those who go grocery shopping there or want to pick up a gift worth $200 and get a 50% savings. Then again Eldarwen, Wal Mart will undercut any competitor so if I can get the same thing at Wal Mart that I can get at Best Buy and I can get a $100 credit in the process, why not ?

Even though I have an Amex Platinum and Blue Cash, I wouldn't go using it at Walmart.

For you Amex Cardholders, if you haven't been to the Amex website lately, here is a saving idea I would like to pass on, If you spend $200+ at Walmart or Walmart.com starting Black Friday and ending in late December 2009 you can receive a $100 credit on your statement. This special is limited to the first 500 who take advantage of the offer. Obviously this will not make it to the latter part of next month but for those who sign up and take advantage, its like 50% off a $200 purchase. Check out Americanexpress.com for more details....................

What I think about that is that Amex wants you to use your gold card more. You have said that you use it infrequently. How often do you use the card?

a few weeks ago AMEX sent me a flyer about being selected to receive a "companion" air ticket and $100 worth of dining certificates. Filled out all needed paperwork and sent back to AMEX. Yesterday AMEX sent me the application needed to take advantage of the "companion" ticket offer plus the dining certificates. I will need to pay all taxes/surcharges for the ticket and its good from most Major Cities/hubs to most Major Cities/hubs
Dining certificates are in $25 increments and can only be used at certain restaurants that participate in this special
Too be honest I thought it was a fluke of some kind but I guess AMEX might be for real here. Have used Gold Card infrequently so I wonder how I was selected maybe overall credit history and scores maybe ?

Truth be told, I don't really travel and when I do, I usually drive. It's normally a 4 or 5 hour drive. I might be going to Hawaii soon to see my sister. So the airport lounges might come in handy depending on the lay over.

See that's what I am thinking Eldarwen. I hardly use my Gold Card; using my Visa Signature to pile up points to get a free airline ticket. If I get the Platinum will I use it as infrequently as I do my Gold Card ? $40 month/fee just to use it every now and then seems illogical

I use my Blue Cash for everyday stuff. I am laying off my Amex Platinum right now.

What will probably end up happening is that what I will be doing is sock drawering one and using the other and every few months or so I will be rotating them.

Then what I would have to probably do is pay my blue cash through the Amex website and then go through my bank and pay my platinum card. What's tripping me up is that I have two Amex cards.

Using Bill Pay Eldarwen I have made 15 - 20 payments between billing cycles keeping a credit balance. Thought process was I would stay in their good graces and not be labeled a "high risk"
