What to do With your Kids This Summer Without Breaking the Bank

man-daughter-summer

Summer is the time to make memories with your family and kids. However you don’t have to break the bank to do it. Below are a few great and fun ideas that are not too expensive.

  • Library: Public libraries are free and educational. During the summer they have sing-alongs, arts, and crafts. Check with your local library for their list of activities
  • Beaches: Most beaches are free, and have endless activities. Bring games, a book, and plenty of sunscreen, and it should be tons of family fun.
  • Parks: Many parks are inexpensive or even free. Check the local tourism website to get some great ideas on hiking, biking trails, and relaxing wide open spaces.
  • Sports (Tennis & Bowling): Team sports are always fun activities for family. Tennis and Bowling are usually free or very inexpensive.
  • Museums: Children’s museums are usually inexpensive and a very fun way for your children to learn
  • Boardwalks: Peers and boardwalks can be a very fun and relaxing time with your family. You can bring a lunch and enjoy the beautiful views for hours!
  • Backyard: Sometimes the most fun is just hanging out in your own background playing games, exercising, and generally goofing around. In fact some of my best memories growing up were planning in the backyard all summer.
  • Other: This can include going to bookstores, road trips, and playing board games at home!

Great activities list of excitement for the summer months. Also, day camps and multi-day over night camps can be enjoyable and full of new activities such as: band, sports, science (STEM),arts and outdoor adventures. Know for myself, went to YMCA day and over night camps with lakes, canoeing, swimming, arts/crafts; Boy Scout Camp living in the outdoor wild for two weeks and the socialization is of note. Good list of things to offer the youth a break from the riggers of academia!
