How to Save Money on the Cost of Furniture

Are you in the market for furniture? From a couch to a dining room table to an entertainment stand, there’s no shortage of things you can purchase for your home.

Here’s a common problem when shopping for furniture: everything you like is priced out of your budget.

While this is a concern among most furniture buyers, it shouldn’t stop you dead in your tracks. There are steps you can take to save money, with these among the best:

•    Negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate some more. This isn’t something that many people enjoy, but it’s a great way to score a better deal on any piece of furniture. Regardless of the store, you should feel comfortable negotiating with the salesperson. Even if you’re shot down, it’s better than not trying at all.
•    Wait for a sale. Every now and again you’ll come across a killer sale – and that’s when you want to make your move. With a sale price in place, you don’t have to concern yourself with negotiating (unless you want to, of course). You know you’re getting a deal you can be happy with.
•    Shop online. Go back in time 20 years and the best way to buy furniture was at a local store. This is still an option, but the internet has changed the industry forever. By shopping online, you gain access to a larger selection of furniture. Not to mention the fact that you can comparison shop to ensure yourself of buying at the lowest price.

Additional tip: don’t purchase an “add on” service unless you’re 100 percent sure that it’s something you want (and need). For example, furniture protection is something that most salespeople will push. There’s nothing wrong with buying this, as long as you’re comfortable with the price and know what you’re getting for your money.

Buying furniture should be an enjoyable experience. With these tips guiding you, you’ll find it easier to save money.

When was the last time you purchased furniture for your home? Were you able to secure a good deal? What steps did you take to make this happen? Share your advice in the comment section below.

I always wait for sale, usually memorial or labor day. I have been able to get some great deals on couches, TVs, beds, etc.
