I agree that Frugal Fran's dad must have been a good man. In today's environment of drug addicts that live on the street and just kids that haven't seen the light yet, we live in a not-so-perfect society with not-so-perfect morals.

He offered something, but my dad didn't take it. We were pretty well off when I was growing up to the point that money was no object, so dear ol' Dad chalked it up to a good deed done.

Did your father get a reward? If someone found $1,000 that I lost and actually returned it to me, I would have no issue with giving them $100 for their time, effort and honesty. None whatsoever.

If I find money in a wallet, which has never happened, I would make a good faith effort to find the owner. Loose cash on the street? What else can you do except keep it?

I once read an article about how people react differently to money found in the street. In most cases loose cash, either notes or change, will be kept by the finder. Wallets with ID are returned the most often, especially if there is a photograph of the owner. Wallets with no ID are in the middle I guess. Evidently it all rests on the finder making a connection to the wallet owner, seeing them as a real person so to speak.

The store kept it! Although, the nicer policy would have been to wait a certain amount of time and if no one claimed it, give it to the employee who found it.

I've found many several times on the street. If it's just laying there on its own, I will look around and then keep it. If it's in an envelope or a large amount of money, I turn it into the police station.

Almost exactly the same thing happened to me about ten years ago. I left my purse in a Walmart shopping cart because I was so focused on getting my son in his car seat. I got home and called Walmart and, sure enough, some incredibly kind soul had turned it in to customer service. The thing that really blew me away was that it happened at Christmastime and all of my Christmas money was in my wallet. They could have gotten away with about $700, but they didn't.

He will receive a blessing for that! When I left my purse on top of my car hood leaving walmart in Texas, I was called a day later and there was no more money inside...lol. But I got my id and everything back.
