Replied by julienne on topic no credit card but with low credit score?

My friend was so surprised yesterday when she learned that her credit card application was turned down because of a low credit score. Does it mean she already has a credit card? She haven't had any type of credit cards yet. So what happened? How can she have a credit card but not have it? Any ideas/suggestions how to solve my friend's problem?

I think you will be considered a high risk by most insurance companies. These scores can be the reason that you will be denied for insurance or credit. Not that applying for new credits or insurance with these scroes is a wise move. Try to make a goal of lowering all your balances for these cards so your score can increase to a healthy number. :)

Meya,
It's been a pleasure reading all of your posts and what not. In a weird way it's sort of like we are friends because you have been so candid about everything. I just wanted to say thanks, your output has been very informative and cleverly written (I always get a few laughs).
*side note, sorry to hear that things are hard in the house right now, take care and things will work out, you know they always do girl!

Thanks so much for making my day! I know things are going to get better, as a matter of fact, this is were I gain strength and knowledge to become much stronger than before. Glad I can make someone laugh, especially when finances has put them down. We need to laugh in our lifetime, cries is pretty powerful right about now.

I had two cards with Cross Country Bank way back when Meya. Had to pay for CLI's and had a $4000 limit on one and a $2000 limit on another. I remember I lost one of them Meya and called Visa to report it lost, went through a lot of changes.

Soon as I got my first BOA card, I started the process of closing both of them down.

Wow, I don't even think my limit was over $600. It was over $1k when it went through collections...lolz! I will never go through them again. Lets not forget about Sterling Bank and Trust, I had a secured card through them and they hit me up well with fees.:fun:

All - thanks honeyb for the discount (I used it). Pulled my scores and got TU 719 and EQ 697 on this date. Note, the BK 09/2001 is still on the reports for another year plus so I don't envision any real score change until it is gone. As an added piece of info, my scores have remained almost exactly the same for over two years now. My credit reports exactly match between the three bureaus. I had to do some work to get them the same. I have no baddies just the BK and a short average account life (4.5 years) due to all my credit history virtually being wiped off. My actual credit history should go back to 1973 when I got my first American Express Gold Charge Card (had a $2,000 bank line of credit), Visa Bank Americard Card and a Mastercard Bank Card.

I would love to have 4.5 years on one account!! ^_^ Remember, I am only 19...

Hi All,

Just ran MyFICO this morning and my scores are as follows:

TU - 742
EQ - 730

I need to run Vantage for EX - I hate they no longer offer EX on MyFICO since I was able to use a 25% off coupon for my reports. LOL

fyi, my length of credit history averages 1 yr because my cards have been opened since Oct. 2008 which is when I joined FG, if I recall correctly. Since then I have dumped quite a few cards but have replaced them, which means that I have quite a bit of inquiries and new accounts. I do have a small paid collection for a medical bill which is set to fall off in 2012 on both EQ and EX. My goal is to continue a good payment history, keeping utilizations low, letting my accounts age, and NO MORE APP'ING!:cheesing:

The coupon code is - FICO25

UPDATE: I went ahead and ran my VantageScore from EX - 795 (Prime). Another goal - next step is Prime Plus, then Super Prime!

I'm going to guess you have balances? If you keep them below 15% of your available credit line the score will go up. For instance, if the credit line is $1,000 then keep the balance below $150. If you have multiple accounts; some with higher balances and some with lower balances, then adding them up is still the same as having one account. For example, if you have three credit cards with $1,000 limits per each card and one card with a $100 balance, another with $50, and the last one with $200: You'd still be below 15% available credit, which in return will help your scores raise. Now, if you have black marks etc. this may not help you.

The main idea with raising scores; is paying everything down and never missing a payment. Also if you apply for new things it will probably hurt your score at this time.

PS: Try keeping your balances under 50%, then 40%, and so on... Until you meet the goal of 15%.

Btw, meya. I kno this is probably posted on another thread, but should'nt your CR be like totally clean now?

Cleaner than a baby's behind! I did not see this question on another thread so it is fine here. After watching the last baddie drop, I was expecting a huge increase in scores....NOT! I think it went up by 10 Pt's if not less. The only thing that is keeping me from touching the 700's is high utilization. After all I have been through and from everything I have learned here, I should have known better than that. Times had became real hard in my household so I had no other choice but to depend on my cc's. I will catch them back up sometime soon, I am sort of snowballing right now:innocent:
