For first time applicants for credit cards. this may be their first step towards financial hell, so it is my hope that posters will treat this topic seriously and not be so flippant about it.

Perhaps you should also include a section on how to use credit cards in a responsible manner. Too many Americans are saddled with credit card debts and I think a consumer and finance basic course should be taken by all credit card applicants

Honestly, I didn't ever imagined that I could obtained a debit card considering the stiff requirements of getting it which I found hard to comply. But as it is, I got mine very easily online through a US bank account. All I did was apply and I received my Mastercard two weeks later without even making a deposit. And I have activated it about three months later - just recently. And I am now Paypal verified which makes me very happy.
