Hey, I'm pretty new to this forum. Wanted to let everyone know that I'm a manager for a finance company for 3 years now so if anyone has any questions in that field please feel free to ask. Thanks

I agree with ColoNative and Charonh. Forget about opening new accounts right now because the banks are struggling so that gives them no room to open any new accounts. Right now is the perfect time for you to focus on making your payments on-time with your current cards and you have two good cards that will help you build good credit. Just give it some time and you will start seeing preapprovals in the near future.

Ditto with ColoNative. I would focus on building a history and age with your new accounts, because pretty much at this point you would probably get approved for additional accounts, but with about the same credit lines, since your credit history is fairly new. Creditors want you see that you have the ability to handle your finances over time and history accounts for a substantial portion of your credit score.

Hold off on inquiries (lots of new accounts)
Don't close out your oldest card
Give it time, building good credit takes patience and time
Keep your utilization low (you have a $500 limit keep it down below $200) and by the way, just because you pay off your cards each month in full, keep in mind that the creditors update your information at different times. So even though you PIF for the month, the creditors might still show a balance.

I just wanted to note apparently that is my AdvantageScore report (never noticed that untill I just looked at it). I would guess my FICO score is more like a little over 600 (tips on improving that except using the cards in moderation and paying them off on time/not missing any payments).

I first recieved a "pre-approved" capital one platinum (no anual fee, adjustable APR, etc) and recieved a $300 credit line on may of this year. This was my very first card (I was 19 at the time, I am now 20). I've been using the card and paying my bill off every month in full. I receieved a CLI to $500 in September. I recently also got a chevron gas card ($400 limit). and was wondering what steps I should take to improve my ability to receive new cards?

I checked my experian credit report just a bit ago, everything seems to be in good standing (my credit score there is 713). I was wondering if I should go about getting another card (if so, which one) or if I should wait and build more history with capital one. $500 is not very much, and i just recieved my gas card last month.

Thanks for all the help, sorry I'm runnin in circles

*Alimony, child support and separate maintenance income need not be disclosed if you do not wish to have it considered as a basis for repaying this obligation.*

To be honest, I don't know the exact ones that will let it happen, but I have seen it on plenty. I would feel guilty if dad applied for all of these cards and was denied. If he never had credit or its been zoo-who years since he had one, it is going to be tough. I have buddies who have never had credit before and they are like 20-30 and I saw them being turned down by Tribute! I just say, whatever card you look for him, make sure that his income title matches what they ask you to select. Other than that, I can't say who will or who wont. Sorry!

My dad hasnt had any activity other than a when he was going through his divorce the house went into forclosure but was taken back out when everything was settled. His last report stated about the forclosure but then below it stated that it was out of forclosure I found this out when e were looking into an apartment to rent, so the the story was told to justify why it states that. thanks for the info though, I will leave it up to him.

You should try to convince him to apply for a Capital One card.

I agree, and if Capital One declines him then try to help him get a secured card from Bank of America, Citibank or US Bank (if you live out west).

Meya,
Can you tell me which credit card companies are they?????
My dad hasn't had any type of credit activity in years after he divorced with my mother and his score has been dormant because of it.

Does anyone know if a person was on a fixed income, can they apply for a credit card?????
My dad would like to apply for one but the apps say about employer and he doesnt have one????? He does get a monthly income, though.

From what I have heard, I believe you can. Some creditors just go by what you tell them in the income section. Actually there is a drop down list when they ask you to tell your source of income and I do see
1. Retired
2. Self employed
3. Alimony (I think this is the secondary income)
4. Disability.....etc

All he can do is try, we are all for him either way it goes:white-flag:

Capital One doesn't have any secured cards.

Yes they do, it was offered to a few people who was denied. Here is the prepaid link, but secured card pops up when they can't do anything for you. http://www.capitalone.com/creditcards/products/prepaid/?linkid=WWW_0608_CARD_TGUNS04_CCPCP_H3_17_T_PM116

In the past month Macy's approved, Chevron approved, Dillards approved, Lowes denied, American Eagle denied, Traget Red denied, JC Pennys Denied, B of A denied but said I could get a secured card. I think that is all.
