Commodity Trading Advisor
Definition: An investment manager that focuses on long and short trading in the futures markets. The trades are often intraday trades. Sometimes referred to as Managed Futures.
Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA)
Definition: A person who, for pay, regularly engages in the business of advising others as to the value of commodity futures or options or the advisability of trading in commodity futures or options, or issues analyses or reports concerning commodity futures or options. Commodity-backed Bond
Definition: A bond with interest payments tied to the price of an underlying commodity.
Commodity-Linked Bond
Definition: A bond in which payment to the investor is dependent to a certain extent on the price level of a commodity, such as crude oil, gold, or silver, at maturity.
Common Code
Definition: A nine-digit identification code issued jointly by CEDEL and Euroclear. As of January 1991 common codes replaced the earlier separate CEDEL and Euroclear codes.
Common Factor
Definition: An element of return that influences many assets. According to multiple factor risk models, the factors determine correlations between asset returns. Common factors include size (often measured by market capitalization), valuation measures such as price to book value ratio and dividend yield, industries and risk indices.
Common Market
Definition: An agreement between two or more countries that permits the free movement of capital and labor as well as goods and services.
Common Shares
Definition: In general, a public corporation has two types of shares, common and preferred. The common shares usually entitle the shareholders to vote at shareholders meetings. The common shares have a discretionary dividend.
Common Stock
Definition: Securities that represent equity ownership in a company. Common shares let an investor vote on such matters as the election of directors. They also give the holder a share in a company's profits via dividend payments or the capital appreciation of the security. Units of ownership of a public corporation with junior status to the claims of secured/unsecured creditors, bondholders and preferred shareholders in the event of liquidation.
Common Stock Equivalent
Definition: A convertible security that is traded like an equity issue because the optioned common stock is trading above the conversion price.
Common Stock Fund
Definition: A mutual fund investing only in common stock.
Common Stock Market
Definition: The market for trading equities, not including preferred stock.
Common Stock Ratios
Definition: Ratios that are designed to measure the relative claims of stockholders to earnings (cash flow per share), and equity (book value per share) of a firm.
Common Stock/other Equity
Definition: Value of outstanding common shares at par, plus accumulated retained earnings. Also called shareholders' equity.
Common-base-year Analysis
Definition: The representing of accounting information over multiple years as percentages of amounts in an initial year.
Common-size Analysis
Definition: The representing of balance sheet items as percentages of assets and of income statement items as percentages of sales.
Common-size Statement
Definition: A statement in which all items are expressed as a percentage of a base figure, useful for purposes of analyzing trends and changing relationship among financial statement items. For example, all items in each year's income statement could be presented as a percentage of net sales.

Definition: A British development finance institute.
Community Development Area
Definition: An area defined by local authorities for government-assisted housing programs.
Community Land Trust
Definition: A community land trust is a private, non-profit organization whose goal is to acquire and hold land for the benefit of the community and to provide secure affordable access to land and housing for community residents.
