They are stingy and play broke....lol. Nah, I have a cousin who moved from Modesto, CA to move to East Texas so she could purchase a $150k motor home and live luxury. Well tables clashed on her and now she wants to come back home. Stuck! Why, no one down there can afford to purchase that house on wheels, or even want to purchase it for that value. She tried to make everyone think she was rich, now she is down there living worse than the ones she tried to impress herself in front of. That's what she get. She could not afford to live out here, so why go down there just to pretend like it?

Funny thing happen to me at work. I was serving a guy and he was talking about living in the Phoenix area. He told me that he prefers living on the east valley (Scottsdale, Tempe, etc). I asked him why and he stated "Dont you like being around people with money?" I told him I could care less as long as Im not getting shot at trying to get in my house. He said that he loves being surrounded by wealthy people. I knew he was a snob. He later tells me that hes PR for a new concept restaurant in Dallas (Bengal Coast) and is looking to expand. Oh the snobbery, LOL.

I'd rather live in Glendale. People from Dallas are a bit off anyway. I always wondered why they thought they were so rich, wouldnt a rich city have housing prices above $200K? Besides, if Texans are so darn proud why do they keep leaving?

thanks guys i hope they dont have to either but its not looking good :scared:
here is the latest :

Dwindling — that word best describes the school board's fund balance as the budget dilemma continues.

At last week's meeting, the Cumberland County Board of Education learned that its fund balance is currently being used for operating expenses and payroll. If a new school budget is not approved soon, all of the funds could be exhausted before October, jeopardizing the remainder of the 2008-'09 school year, noted Business Manager Cindy Randol.

"By the end of September, our fund balance and all our funds will be depleted," she said.

Randol and Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle delivered the surprising, but somewhat expected, news during a discussion of the actual year-to-date figures for July and the newly revised 2008-'09 budget.

During her monthly financial report, Randol pointed out $43,415 in revenues were received in July, while $1,763,392 was spent on expenditures.

"If you look at the note I put on the bottom of the report, you'll see that since July we have paid $1,719,977 from the fund balance," she said.

Unlike previous months, August contained three paydays instead of two, which is "one thing that hit the board hard," said Randol. She explained this usually occurs twice a year, but it just happened to fall in the middle of a financial crisis.

"In August, we have gotten BEP [Basic Education Program funds] in the amount of $2.6 million. That was probably taken up in the August 1 payroll. We have a payroll tomorrow [Aug. 29], and that again will be taken from the fund balance," said Randol.

"So, Cindy, this is…[the] continuing budget that the county commission keeps talking about? So how long will this budget last?" asked Gordon Davis, 5th District representative.

Randol suggested until the end of the month because one more BEP payment is expected around Sept. 20. Although some local sales tax could also come in, the amount will likely be less than what the BOE is anticipating.

According to VanWinkle, estimated revenues for last year came up short about $6 million. Even though the BOE plans to use $2.8 million from its fund balance, $3.2 million will still be needed to balance the budget.

"I would like to remind you that in that $3,207,000 are three projects that are under way—the two sewer projects and the Phoenix School," said the DOS.

VanWinkle is scheduled to attend a tentative meeting with the county budget committee on Monday, Sept. 8, at 4: 30 p.m. in the large courtroom of the Cumberland County Courthouse. The public is welcome to attend.

"Unless they come up with some alternative, what we started we will have to stop," said Davis.

"This is exactly the reason why the decision to delay the opening of school was made," stated 2nd District representative Robert Safdie

wow...i'm glad your school finally decided to open, let's pray that it stays open. I just read an article in the Suntimes (chicago)..that one of our school district (lansing) has discontinued the busing program. Some students and parents decided to walk the 2 mile route. Guess what the school said..? "Where were the parents at the 4 meetings before the opening of the first day of school?" They had to cut the funding for school buses because there was no extra money...go figure...

hi yoyo11 that is what is gonna be cut next is the buses nurses and sports. they have to cut 3 million dollars off the budget or no more school for a while.

here is the lastest news]CROSSVILLE (WATE) -- Wednesday was the first full day of school for Cumberland County students.
Although doors are open now, there's still a $3 million budget shortfall looming over the school system. The county has until October 1 to resolve the issue.
If county commission and the school board can't come to a solution by then, there will be no state funding, meaning another temporary shutdown.
"I would be totally frustrated with the whole thing," says parent Paul Cotrell. "A county of this size should have resources and do have resources to keep these students in school."
The resources may be there, but it comes down to raising taxes or cutting school programs.
"If the taxes have to be raised, then they should be raised a little. I think the schools are more important than having to pay a little bit more taxes," says another parent, Lori Smith.
The answer all depends on who you ask.
Smith, a mother of three students at Crab Orchard Elementary School, says no matter what, education comes first. Most teachers, students and parents agree.
"You cut school in the middle of the year or start of the year, it's going to totally throw their plans off," Cottrell says.
Students returned for a half day Monday, after an unexpected two week delay. The late start was due to a $5 million budget shortfall.
The school board voted in early August to postpone the start.
So far, the school board hasn't had to fire teachers or cut classes, but members did cut about $1.7 million from the budget.
The school board meets again Thursday evening when the top priority will be the budget.
6 News spoke with Commissioner Lynn Tollett, chairman of the budget committee, about the meeting. He says a tentative meeting has been scheduled for September 8.
Tollett says he hopes the two sides can come to a compromise by mid-September.
But at this point, Tollett says there's a slight chance schools could be shut down.
Commissioner Tollett also says the majority of the commission is against a tax hike and still has a lot of questions for the school board.
sorry so long

I can see cuts in a lot of areas, but special education? Public schools (at least in Northeastern Ohio) get about $30,000. Granted, they don't use most of it.
