Happylady, when I got my card, I didn't actually apply for it myself. My mother surprised me with this card because she told me she went into my local BofA branch and had her friend fill out the application who happens to be in charge of the credit card applications. Honestly, I don't know what she filled out in the application as to what school I will be attending. But, my first card was Capital One which I applied for myself and got it one month before the BofA Student Visa card. Here's the link to the one I applied, tell your son to give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, let him apply for the BofA secured Visa. It's a good deal and since you also have had experience with secured cards, it will be a lot easier on him. Isn't he lucky?
Like I said, I got this card without having one day of credit history on my report!
This card is for those who have a short credit history or no credit history at all...

Let me know what happens, good luck!

Thanks for the info hjm331...I am also looking for a good student cc as my son (17) is about to graduate from high school and I want to get his credit off to a good start. I actually have the secured BofA cc (2nd link) for myself - that was the first cc I got when I started rebuilding my credit (Aug 07). For the student cc (1st link) - the info on the link says you have to be "enrolled full-time or part time at an accredited university"...when you got your card did they actually check this?? Just wondering because he will be attending community college first and I'm not sure if that will count for an "accredited" school.
Thanks for the help!

If that doesn't work out, then try this secured card:

If you don't know what a secured card is, then let me know and I'll go ahead and explain it for you.
