This is very interesting. You can never be too careful when dealing with online shopping or any online dealings. I would say one of the easiest ways to protect your identity is to only shop at secured websites.

This has worked for me. Shred or burn mail or docs with your name or sensitive info, use different passwords for every website. And when you travel, use only 1 credit card for purchases. I use my lowest credit limit card for that.
