A secured card from one of the big banks (Citibank, BofA, Wells Fargo, US Bank, 5/3-if you live in the midwest) is always a good idea. Also check out some credit unions for their secured cards.

But you should also loo,k into Capital One. They have an option on their website to check if you are pre-qualified for one of their cards ( https://cardfinder.capitalone.com/CapOne/findMyOffer.do?ex=R&pr=&id=&tg=39&pnt=ZZZZ00ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ&ch=UNS&wtg=01 ). If that link doesn't work, go to their website, place your mouse over Credit Cards and a list of options appear. Click the "See if you are pre-qualified" button. You would just enter your information and they would do a soft inquiry (only you see it on your credit bureau) and they could come back with an offer of what you MIGHT be approved for. Then you could apply for that offer (that would result in a hard inquiry). It is not gauranteed of course.

You could also look into a Hooters MasterCard; however, I have heard that no matter what, there is now an annual fee of variying amounts for that card. I do not know this for sure so maybe some others will chime in on that one.

So I currently have a Credit Card with Credit One Bank, Not the best card but it is the only one i have.

Their fees are kinda high, so i would like to get another card.

Ive tried to get approved for several cards, but all denied.

I am 19, No baddies. My oldest line of credit would be the CC of 1.2 years.

The bad part is that i have a 350 CL and my balance is 345.

My credit Karma score is 702, i dont know if i can trust that place too much but its free and i like it.

Should i cancel the Credit one bank and get a Secure CC? like from Wellsfargo or BOFA?

Any advice would help, Thanks !!!

Yeah, I know about the hole triple advantage thing. Sorry if I confused you, but I've been using the Triple Advantage service now for months, because they offered it me at 50% off when I tried to cancel. So I get unlimited pulls at about $7/month plus the monitoring.

Do you guys think freecreditreport.com offers accurate information? I say this because, a few days ago I received an email for 40% off all three reports, so I did it. Well, it says all three reports have the same score of 714, however I just had my credit pulled at my credit union for a visa and they said my score was 687 (Equifax). This was on about the 4rd of this month. It just seemed fishy. O_o But, one of my student loan finally corrected its balance from $9k+ to the right balance of $5k. That may of raised the score within this time period of February 4th and now?

I never pull all reports because I just use the Experian free credit report thing, they gave me a discount when I tried to cancel it once of 50% off. So I get Experian credit monitoring and unlimited pulls for around $7/month. This was my first time pulling all three.

That 714 might just be the general FACO (FICO) score. Freecreditreport has some catchy commercials, but I would just work with the credit reporting agencies directly. If you enrolled in Triple Advantage to get the free score be careful, that is a month recurring charge until you cancel.

I have a credit card that have 1 year 0% interest on balance transfers until March 2010. I transferred a balance from another card in July of last year. Can someone tell me if I don't pay the balance off before the 0% end, will the credit card company charge me interest on the beginning balance or on the balance that's on the card right now?

Usually furniture stores and electronic stores will charge you back interest from the date of the sale if you do not pay in full before the "same-as-cash" financing ends. But a credit card company (Visa/MC/Discover/AMEX) usually doesn't. Like Wanderer said, go back and check your terms and conditions. I personally have never seen that happen on a major card, but you never know.

webreader - every offer may be different. I would speculate the remaining balance would go over to the current purchase rate or cash rate. The whole game is to get you hooked on the front and nail you on the back.

I hope people wake up and realize that we (the customers) made BoA, Citi, Chase, and Wells Fargo the banks they are today. Without us, they wouldn't be able to buy the competition or even stay in business. These banks here are NOT our friends. They will NOT be here for us when we need them. The recession is a wake-up call to all consumers out there that the big banks will pull away when you need them the most. They took our money (TARP funds), used it to keep their stomachs full but left us hungry with closed accounts and/or CLD's to the point where we can't support ourselves nor our families.

We need to support CU's because they are here for us more than the big banks will ever be. We need to start moving our money to a better place and that would be credit unions. They are non-profit organizations which means that they will do what's in the best interest of their members, not themselves.

i have to agree with hjm.. sometimes those Big Banks are in closer proximities than the Credit Unions. As much as we would like to join a credit union, it's just not convenient and accessible... but if a credit union would open close to our place, why not? :)

Different people have different needs. As much as I don't like BoA or any other big bank, I still keep my checking account open because my whole family is with BoA and it's easy to transfer from one account to the other when you really need to. Also, there are local BoA locations near my house and closest credit union is probably 20-25 miles away from my house. It's all about convenience for me.

Ditch Bank of America! Go credit unions... Lower visa rates, lower home mortgage rates, lower auto loans rate, and more convenient. That's right more convenient. With the shared branch and co-op networks you have access to over 28,000 ATM's (included all 7-elven stores) and 9,000 branches nation wide. My credit union is located downtown, yet I use the closest credit union for my banking needs (it's not even the same bank!). They're linked with the shared-branch system. Universal banking software for all credit unions.

hlm331 - interesting as I contacted BofA and they did a very complete review for me of my account. No hard hit in the bureau and refused a CL increase due to available credit from other providers and the BK from 09/2001. It gets better, they remember me from the BK and said I may not ever see an increased CL. Is it time to write the Bank of America Board Chair (worked before?). Only problem is Bank of America execs are being pursued for legal challenges. As always we get to pay the bill while the high incomes pass the bill to us!
