Hey mrrob...HSBC is so confusing on the limits of accounts you can have with them...It really varies from cardholder to cardholder. I have a Household MC, Orchard bank MC, and 2 Direct Rewards Discover accounts.

So it really does vary from person to person.

Eric...if you apply please let me know the outcome....

HJM331, I see that you are closing a lot of cards. May I ask which cards do you have and the limits?

Cireone, HSBC has bought the Direct Rewards Discover card from a bank called Direct Merchants Bank. They might consider this card as a card offered by one of their sub-divisions just like the Best Buy store card I commented about this week.

I will never figure out how HSBC works that is why I'm closing my cards with them. I do not want to deal with a lender who doesn't know what they are doing. I'd rather utilize my cards with BOA and build a reputation with them knowing that it will pay off in the future when I apply for a home mortgage and auto loan with them in the future. Not only will I receive a good interest rate but I will also have no problems getting approved.

I have an Orchard Bank and Best Buy MC. I applied for the UnionPlus MC and was denied due to I had the maximum amount of accounts for HSBC. Last month I applied for a Discover card and got re-routed to a pre-approved offer from Direct Rewards. Its also issued by HSBC. So now I have three cards with them. I read about the store cards bieng a different division and applied for the BestBuy Store card and got denied due to delinquencies. IDK but HSBC is very wishy-washy when screening apps.

When I was approved for the Orchard visa, I applied for another HSBC card and was denied because I was only allowed 1 card with HSBC. I was recently approved for the Best Buy Mastercard offered by HSBC which makes 2 cards. I am wondering if HSBC will allow me a third card as I wish to apply for the Direct Rewards card. What do you think?

God willing I will apply for the Discover Card sometime next year. I want to give my credit history a chance to develop and for my scores to begin to rise.

In some cases such as mine its not true. I have an Orchard Gold, Best Buy MasterCard and now just got the Direct Rewards Discover card. They are all issued by HSBC. I have been denied for another Orchard Platinum and UnionPlus cards from HSBC. Reasons are that I have the maximum amount of cards that can be issued. Weird that they even apporved me for the Diect Rewards Discover.
maybe it is true that it has to be a mix of Mastercard, Visa, etc to be considered different.

thanks for the information hjm331 and cireone. Cireone, how long did you have the orchard and best buy prior to getting the discover?

All the cash advance rates that I have seen are really high! That is why I don't use that feature on my cards.

Don't have this card...but it look like the APR for cash advances are very high...23+% and this is on all Discover card.s..

I have this card w/ a $900 CL and no AF.
The Purchase APR is 18.99% and for Cash Advances is 26.99%!
The APR for Cash Advances is always high... the lowest CA APR I have from all my cards is 16.80% on my CapOne card.

Yes, it will count towards your max amount of cards because it's offered by HSBC, not Discover.

I've notice that some people are getting approved for this card with HSBC. Does anyone know if this card counts as their (two) card max? Before I apply I just want to make sure my hard pull is not in vain. My brother applied for the regular Discover Card and got redirected to this one , approved but don't know the limit yet. It also has an $59.00 annual fee.:dumbfounded:
