Re: Account No. 5206 0530 xxxx xxxx
To whom it May Concern;
My name is Bryan Carpenter, My SS ends in xxxx. I am writing about the above reference account.
I opened this account thinking it would be handy to have. What I found was that in two separate cases, my payment was not posted to my account in a timely fashion. In one case, the payment was mailed to Continental Finance and was posted as removed from my checking account on 7/24/2007, I received daily calls and finally authorized a payment by phone in response from a Continental phone stooge, so Continental would be kind enough to reverse the late fee they had charged me because they still had not posted the payment they took from my bank 5 days before. I told Continentals phone stooge to close my account on 7/30/2007. So far I had not even tried to use the card, but had simply been paying the start-up fees of about 248 dollars. On 8/8/2007 I attempted to use the card because my wife had asked me to use it for a visit to the eye doctor. It was denied, as it was closed. I called and was told it was closed. At the time I think this is good. On 8/10/2007, I received a bill, and it indicates that I have $50.00 credit on my account, and 350 available credit. Again, I call, and am told it is closed. However; I was charged a 10-dollar maintenance fee on 8/1/2007. I called again and was told the account was closed, and I might receive a refund in 60 90 days. At this rate, Continental Finance will just charge a maintenance fee for 90 days until they owe nothing.
I demand a return of all funds paid to continental finance by myself for this account since its inception. I demand that it be kept closed. I demand that Continental Finance stop sending me any further offers of credit. (Today I received 4 emails from them, and one piece of mail)
I believe Continental Finance is a predator company. I know they took money, as a payment from my bank account, yet didnt post it to my account so they could charge a 30-dollar late fee. I know they are continuing to charge a maintenance fee for a closed account that they themselves admit has a surplus of money and is closed.
I want this account closed; I want all money I ever paid on this unused account returned to me immediately. I want to know where my written statement advising me that this account has been closed is? To this date I have not received it. In addition, since the only thing keeping this account on paper at all is Continental Finances book-keeping, I demand that no further fees be charged.
I plan to call Continental Finance twice a day to inquire about my money. I plan to mail this letter every day until I get satisfaction. I plan to also plaster it as many places as I can find to alert the public at large. I plan to mail it to any official and agency that I can find an address to mail it to. General folk wisdom is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I plan to make as much squeak as I possibly can in hopes of getting results.
Sincerely,
Bryan J. Carpenter
