wildrage2's review: Callout Comment I was denied a card from them because my phone number is unlisted. I expected to be able to call them and fax them a phone bill or something, but they said 'no.' If I don't have a listed phone number, I can't have their card. They also won't take cell phone numbers or work numbers.

I wasn't going to even argue with her over their dinky card with probably a $200 limit. They don't even really offer any rewards.

Unbelievable.

Remarks Those seem like lame excuses to me-at least the unlisted phone number thing.

The cell phone thing I understand, These new laws about cell phones is making issuers scramble. Something to do with collections. People move all over the States but never change their cell numbers. So someone could live in NYC with a Los Angeles cell phone number, and if a creditor calls someone they believe to be in the PST time zone but they are calling in NYC they can be fined big time.

I don't know man, but since this inquiry will now be on your record until 11/2010 I would fight it and try to get the darn card.

Remarks The only thing you missed was a loss on your credit scores. Other than that, you were actually saved.

Remarks When they asked me for proof of address via utility bills in my name, I could not furnish them. Everything is in my husband's name. So I sent them a reconciliation letter along with a copy of my driver's license, a pay stub, and copies of some shipped purchases from Overstock.com. They gladly sent me a card in the mail. Yes, the limit was $200.00, but at the time, I was begging for credit.

Remarks Lol... KellBell, you'd think they were going to give you a 20k limit with all that documentation.

Like seriously... Who needs all this security for a $200 limit? Especially for a store card. Think about it, even if you maxed it out fraduently, the wholesale value of the merchandise @ $200 retail would probably under $100. I've used my cell # for 10 other credit cards in the past 6 months, all with higher limits, and never had an issue. Sounds pretty crazy to me..

It's funny, because after writing this review, I went to Target for something, and they told me I was preapproved for their card... And I said no, and they tried to pressure me, so I went off on them about how their credit department sucks lol.

Like I said, their limits pretty much suck, and theres no huge benefits for having the card (like a Kohls or Macys), so I'm not going to let it get to me that much. It would have been nice to have, but I'll deal.

Congrats on everyone that has the card... But those thinkign about it... Beware if you don't have a home phone or have an unlisted number.

Remarks Sounds like Target is acting like Amex. Why wouldn't they issue the card with an unlisted phone number?

Sounds like an elaborate excuse just to decline your application.

Don't worry about the inquiry. You might have lost all of 8 points for the inquiry, not 20!

I have an unlisted phone number, and own all the Top Tier cards on the planet, so this makes no sense whatsoever!

If you have listed your unlisted phone number on any of your credit accounts, they can verify it just by your credit report. It will be listed at the top with your addresses, etc.

Take care!

Sorry Wildrage User Icon on 2008-11-10

Remarks Yea, I wouldn't feel bad about it either. They would have probably just given you the 200 CL. But, if you think its worth the fight of the inquiry, than go for it.

Remarks Everytime I use my Chase Visa or Chase Visa ATM card they ask me to open an account. If I use anything else I get no request.

RE: User Icon on 2008-12-18

Remarks How sure are you that "need further review" response is a denial? You cannot ever assume that you are basically putting urself down...

As for answering your question... I have never heard that Target was easier to get. For me its the other way around.

Remarks I, too, got that message and was approved. If you wrote down your application number, go back and enter it into the "check app status" or something like that and see what it tells you. Good luck, but don't look forward to anymore than the usual $200 if you're approved for the store card.

Remarks Th Target card is definitely more harder to get than the Macys. I spent 3 years trying to get one and then after finally being approved, it was only for $200. On the other hand, Macys approved me on the spot and started me @ $500. Since then I had a CLI total of $400 to make my total CL $900. Target, I'm still stuck at $200 whether I PIF or carried a balance. And might I add they wont accept a CLI request.

If You Get Declined.... User Icon on 2008-12-18

Remarks Dont feel too bad. I have applied for this card twice in the past year and I haven't gotten it either. But according to most on this sight, Im not missing out on much with their 200CL.

Don't Trip User Icon on 2008-12-18

Remarks You did not miss anything but $200 or probably less. Target is a trip and they hardly want to give out cli's anyways. The best thing you could have ever received was a approval from Macy's! Congrats on your approval, you are going to love them!

Remarks I've had Target for 1 & 1/2 years and only $500.

No coupons or hardly any specials...

macys is much better... I want to pay off my Target and say GOODBYE!!

Remarks That is exactly what I did. I don't want anything lingering around on my Cr for $200. It will keep you scores dropping every time you purchase laundry detergent... Lol

Low CL User Icon on 2009-01-09

Remarks Target did a soft pull on my account and still no increase. I called and the CSR said they don't give more then $500 on store cards... That's a first!

And Meya, thanks for all your insights and comments... Does it hurt your score if a coupple of cards are very low CL?

Thanks!

Sandra
