A twenty dollar dispute? You're better off without this card. Good luck to you.

And? on 2008-10-28
There has to be something else besides the charged off utility bill. How many inquiries have you had in the past 12 months?
It might be in your best interest to call that collection agency and have them agree, in writing, to remove that collection account if you pay it in full.

Only Part Of The Equation on 2008-10-28
You can have an 825 FICO, make $250k/year, and have 0 utilization, and still get denied by Orchard Bank or Hooters.
Why you may ask?
The above 2 factors are only a part of the equation. Probably about half.
- How many inquiries have you had in the past 6 months? Good luck getting credit if you have more than 10.
- How many new accounts did you open in the last six months? Good luck getting credit if you opened up several.
- What is your payment history like? You can have a 700 FICO and still have several 30 day lates in the past few years.

I would tend to agree with Wildrage, I am leaning toward inquiries, and not that 20$ collection item.
Several accounts also, as I see many posts just on here. Not to bust your chops or anything, but you could have too many new accounts within 12 months, too many inquiries in last 12 months, and actually too much available credit to deny
I know Macy's approves a lot of people with less than perfect credit, so there may lie your problem with them

Wildrage, you hit it on the nose. I have to agree, everyone thinks that income, scores, and credit history is all that matters. But where they fail to realize is that banks use other factors when making a decision to offer credit.
I would hope cabana7, that you are not applying for credit back to back, because your scores will not be what you just mentioned, trust me, you will have taken a hard hit.

If All Else Fails..... on 2008-11-07
If all else fails, and you don't have a high amount of recently opened accounts or too many inquiries. Ask them to reconsider and contact the Main Corporate Office. It cant hurt... Rockin35
