cabana7's review: They are very reluctant to issue any new accounts...
I am a homeowner my experian credit score is 690 transunion is 669 my income is 144k per year I have 99% avail. On my other accounts and a disputed account over a utility for $20... An application for this card will most likely end uo as another inquiry... Credit with Amex is either tight or near impossible at this time.

You will need near perfect credit to get with American Express at this point. They take into account where you live as well.

The annual fee is too high anyway. Try for a Blue or Optima in a year (or two so the inquiries go away) or better yet try for a Citibank or Bank of America Amex with no annual fee.

NO WAY-NO HOW on 2008-10-28
Amex is ridiculous with their stints they inflict on their cardholders. They run them around a maze like rats with finance reviews, credit line decreases out of nowhere, and now with those scores you can't even get this card?
I've seen people with just barely over 600 get this card. I think Amex is in trouble to be honest. They have been up to their gimmicks well before this market collapse.
I went with Citi to get the co-branded Amex, so I wouldn't have to deal with those monkeys anymore.
I had Gold Preferred Rewards 8 years ago, and closed it because they kept denying 8.00$ charges, when I paid 14k off every month in full
I will never be an Amex cardholder, ever!
Sorry that happened to you, I would suggest Citi or BOA if you want the Amex
