wanderer's review:
Washington Mutual has been good to me. Interest rate 8.9% and rewards. Had the card since 2005. They came through for me when I had a BK 09/2001. Love my Washington Mutual Card. Account transferred to Chase.

Congrats

I was hoping to apply and qualify for a card next year when my credit improves but word on the street is WaMu is doing financially poor and has placed itself up for sale last week. I heard on the news Citi Bank and Wells Fargo are interested in buying WaMu. One could only wonder what will happen to the bank then. Will the new bank be as generous with their cards? I think Citi Bank will be better than Wells Fargo. I also have a checking and savings with WaMu. Makes me concerned. 2009 will be interesting, we'll see.

Washington Mutual's Future
on 2008-09-21
Your statement is correct. Now what do we do? Chase has a statement on their apps "Yes, my credit history is clear of bankruptcy". Right after 10 years for Chapter 7. Now what?! In the mean time...

Good Luck

With WA-Mu's financial problems I wonder who is going to purchase their portfolio? Hopefully you will end up with a nice bank and hold on to that great interest rate and limit. Good luck

Their FICO scores aren't accurate...
at least for me. I'm connected with instant updates with TransUnion for $19.95. They show my score at no less than 723 and WaMu shows 682. I've only lowered what I owe over the last two months, even paid one card off completely.

I also had my credit score provided with TransUnion through TrueCredit.com. I canceled my credit monitoring because their credit score are not truely a "FICO" score. Only your "FICO" score is the real accurate score that creditors see when they offer you credit. Take at look at the services TransUnion is giving you and see if its actually a "FICO" score. If its not the "FICO" they are not giving you the score creditors are seeing.

I'd Be Cautious...

... In doing new business with this bank.
HEADLINE: Washington Mutual May Be on Block
BODY:
Federal regulators are moving quickly to broker a deal for Washington Mutual as the savings-and-loan comes under mounting financial pressure, according to people briefed on the talks.
Even as Washington moves to bail out financial institutions, the fortunes of Washington Mutual have spiraled downward. On Wednesday, Standard & Poor's, a major credit rating agency, downgraded Washington Mutual's debt further into junk territory, Citing the increased chance that the company might have to be split up to facilitate a sale.
Washington Mutual insists that it is well-capitalized and has adequate access to funding and noted ''the rating actions do not affect the safety of customer deposits, which are insured up to the limits allowed'' by the federal government.
Brad Russell, a Washington Mutual spokesman, declined to comment on speculation about a possible sale. Still, shares fell 94 cents, or 29 percent, to $2.26 a share on Wednesday, leaving them down 83 percent this year.
The government's entrance suggests the sales process may be entering a new phase after the bank struggled to find an interested buyer. Washington Mutual had vowed that it could remain independent, but it quietly hired Goldman Sachs early last week to identify potential bidders.
Among the banks that have expressed interest in buying all or part of Washington Mutual are Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Banco Santander, and Wells Fargo. It is unclear what form of assistance federal regulators will now offer.
Analysts suggest that Washington Mutual, which plunged into the subprime mortgage and credit card business over the last few years, could rack up more losses totaling $30 billion or more.

Ok

So what does this have to do with their credit card?
Worst case scenerio is that they close all accounts.
Most likely, just somebody else (probably a better company) will swoop down and buy them up.

Chase
on 2008-09-25
No one should panic, word is Chase will buy out WAMU, they are trying to get on the west coast and WAMU gets them there. So most likely they will absorb the credit card division as well, like they did when chase bought out first USA and bank one

Yeah Nobody Panic With Chase...
on 2008-09-25
The most stingy, non credit helping individuals that have declared bankruptcy in the past. In my opinion they dislike people trying to obtain better their credit.
I think I will move my business elsewhere if Chase takes them over which by the way was just breaking news on my media outlet tonight.
So much for a "better company swooping down and buying them up."

JP Morgan Chase announced on September 25, 2008 that they were approved to purchase the banking assets of Washington Mutual.

Well...

Chase is going to be new to the Florida market since they do not have branches here in Florida. I'll see how this merger goes and see how they treat me and my checking and savings accounts. Maybe I'm judging a book by its cover. Well see. There is a dozen other banks down the street anyways. My hope was to get a WaMu credit card soon now lets see if Chase would offer it to me. Doubt it.

Just logged into my checking account on WAMU and it says "WAMU Customers - Welcome to JP Morgan Chase". It's a done deal.

Davis06, you're right. I logged into my account too and saw that. I just wish they would put out some info whether or not they were converting Wamu's credit cards over to Chase.

Everything Moves To Chase
on 2008-09-26
I heard from a friend who is in the know at chase that with in a year, all Wamu credit cards will become chase accounts. This will be similar to what chase did when it purchased bank 1 and first usa, so those of you who have a Wamu account don't worry you will become part of the chase family
