I have had my Penney's charge card for about 4 years used it for the first time 2 weeks ago. I really wanted a new outfit and didn't figure the card would go through amazingly its still active even though I never used it.
My parents always had a JCP card and would mom used it for all our clothing, household linens etc. So she made me apply for my own when I turned 18 and was off to college.

Most creditors would have purged that account after four years of non use. Did the cashier have to call credit to have the sale go through or did it just go through without a hitch?
Just some FYI, you should try to make a "mercy purchase" on all your cards at least once or twice a year to keep them active not only to keep the account open but also for your credit bureau to show activity.
