Old Navy Discover on 2008-08-10
I have been seeing on credit reports lately an Old Navy Discover. I have also seen Gap Discover Card and Banana Republic Discover Card. This is in addition to JC Penney Discover and Dillard's Discover. All are issued by GE Money. Has anyone else seen this? These are not available to just anybody (none of their websites show a Discover Card)

I guess GEMB likes Discover a lot. I don't know why though. Maybe because they're not accepted everywhere like Visa and M/C is so that lowers the risk of a consumer racking up charges on their card.

Yeah, GE does love the Discover, not that this is a bad thing. I just find it odd that they issue the Wal-Mart and Sam's Discover to anybody but the JC Penney, Gap, Old Navy etc are by invitiation only. Or that they offer the Dillard's AMEX but some people have a Dillard's Discover Card.
I wonder if it is a retention device; you know, people call and say they want to close the account because it is a store card, so they offer the Discover version as a way to keep the customer by giving them the benefit of the store rewards with a card that can be used outside of the store. Or mabye they were "repurposed"-an inactive card upgraded to intice the cardholder. Would love to know more about this if anybody knows.
