Ok went to checkout at a store and my card was declined. I was like this isn't right. I asked for the manager and she called it in and told me my account was closed!
So... Of course I'm really upset. I get home and call the backdoor number. To make a long story short I was declined a credit limit increase 2 weeks ago and they closed my account because a account manager basically goofed up. They opened it back up for me.
So this is a warning to all... If you get declined for a CLI check your account later to make sure it's still open. Hopefully it won't happen to you.

MaryM, I am so sorry that this happened to you. Did they at least offer an apology for their mistake? They should have given you a CLI just for making the mistake.

Cap 1 on 2008-07-15
After reading this I thought I should call Cap 1 and see about my account. I found it ok and even got a cli to $800. Thanks for the warning, Mary. You are a big help. :)

Backdoor Number on 2008-07-15
I think Capital One found out that their number is being posted all over the internet so they have careless reps on the phone. Their service used to be different a few months ago.
I was talking to a rep about my Cap 1 account today and she put me on hold. Next thing I know, the call got disconnected so I guess she couldn't help me out so she hung up.

Backdoor Number on 2008-07-15
Had great luck using the backdoor number tonight checking up on my account and asking for a cli. Got a $300 increase.

CAPITAL ONE BACKDOOR NUMBER on 2008-07-16
2 weeks ago, I also called Capital One backdoor number when I uploaded new image for my card, and had a question about it. I also got a 600$ increase to 3.5k...
The account manager asked me how I heard of the number I called. It took me back, and I immediately said customer service. I think they are getting a lot more calls because of finance network knowing we may be catching on to them.
Anyway, its gonna be at least 6 months before I call again. I certainly don't want what happened to Mary happen to me, but I'm sure that was an isolated incident.

I logged onto my account and found a $300 increase on my card tonight. I think they are sorry :-)
But just to be safe... Check your card after you ask for a CLI...
