casey's review: I did like Capital One until today. I have a Platinum Visa with them. My limit was $3500. Today I logged to look at my account. My credit limit was lowered to $1996. My balance was $2200, so now it says I'm $204 over my limit, through no fault of my own. I called to complain, after jumping through hoops and hurdles, I finally got a manager. Steve, his name, told me that when my account was opened in January, they made a mistake and issued me too high a credit line, so they went and "fixed" the mistake. I've never been late on payments, usually making an extra payment when a get paid to stay ahead. I also have a MasterCard with them for 1 1/2 years now, perfect account also, with a $2500 limit. I wonder if they will do it to that account too. Steve kept saying there was nothing he could do, that I would need to talk to a Senior account Manager on Monday, because they were not "IN" today. Why should I be penalized for mistake they made? I just wanted my original line re-instated to me. He said NO! I never been treated so bad.

I Dont Blame You!! on 2008-01-03
Honestly they should have granted you that line of credit seeing how it was their mistake to start with, they should have found it and then let you know about it and seeing that you were making your payments on time, they should have let you keep the line of credit to show that they were sorry for the mistake if anything. So now your credit looks crappy cause they made a mistake and now its your fault? So who's paying for the mistake now??

I had a similar problem with GEMB on a matress that I orderd and they put me over the limit from the begining and I did not know it. I went to the left with them and I did not stop until I received my letter in writing that they made a mistake and when my dispute was officially over with them. It was taken off of my credit report, but I also learned one other thing.
The new FICO scoring system (although will see it as derog) will not hold this against you when you pay it down to the limit or below the limit. It can cause other creditors to put the universal default on you. Your best bet was to pay off the over limit balance and dispute it with the creditor and all 3 cb's so that you can catch the error before the other creditors do.
