tynece's review: I called the Spirit points line today to see about booking a ticket to Orlando. I found out some of the rules. Although their are no blackout dates your minimum ticket must be at least $299.00 round trip coach class only. If they can not find a ticket that price or higher you don't get the companion fare. Also you have to book at least 14 days in advance. Does anyone know how this compares to the companion ticket with the Amex Platinum? I was very excited about this feature but for this trip I do not think it is going to work. But the good thing is you can use the ticket to go to Hawaii or anywhere in the Continental US the 48 states not including Alaska or Puerto Rico.

Your Question on 2009-01-22
Just wanted to let you know, I wrote a review that describes exactly how the companion fare works - basically all six major airlines have to be base priced over $299 (regardless of connections) for you to be eligible, not just your ticket. Then, even if you find one of these golden unicorn routes, they have only certain inventory that's available (read, nothing you would want to fly).
Also, if you don't already know, Amex platinum ended their companion fare in November, but that one was much better. The companion fare applied to ANY fare you could find that was over $300, the only downside was they blacked out holidays.
