danny's review: I love shopping at Target. I was shopping back in November of 07 and charged some stuff on my Visa. When I got home and saved my stuff I was about to throw out the receipt but for some reason decided to look at it. I noticed at the bottom of the receipt it showed I was preapproved for a card and to go to customer service to apply. I figured there must be a catch. I thought about it and said to myself if I was preapproved at check out then I must be approved to apply online. I applied online and got a pending review. I waited a couple of hours and called customer service. They told me I was approved for $200. It being X-mas I max'd it out. Paid it off in full. Max'd it again. Paid it off again in full and got a credit limit increase automatically. My card now sits at $500 with a zero balance. I always pay it in full. I will wait until next X-mas and ask for the Visa upgrade.

Wow, talk about a close call! Just keep spending and paying it off and you will without a doubt be upgraded to the Visa. Creditors love it when you keep giving and taking it.
Good Luck

My Target card has been sitting at $500 since 07/2007...
But I did notice that every 3 months they are pulling a soft inq on me... IDK what for since I'm not getting a CLI or and upgrade... They have their strange ways.

They are peaking on your credit report to make sure you have not defaulted on anyone. They want to protect themselves from any risks, can't really blame them.

To the Target Family. I like the points that you made on this card. I had my account for almost a month now and I will pay my $53 charge and go from there. Hopefully by X-mas I'll get that Visa too... To Wildrage2, why would they do a soft pull? Will they raise your credit line by doing this? And if your credit did get a bit messy after the card is issued... What will they do?
hmmmmmm

The reason why creditors do a soft pull every so often is to make sure you don't have any charge-offs, collections, or late payments showing on your report. If a creditor sees that you have a 30 day late on of your credit card accounts, they will raise your interest rate. This is called Universal Default and is practiced by most creditors. Capital One claims that they don't practice Universal Default but it's really a way for them to make money off of you. The best thing to do, is to make minimum payments on a credit card if you can't pay a portion of the card off. Universal Default is very cruel and should be banned by the government. A creditor already makes enough from merchants and regular interest rates. Every consumer should know about Universal Default.
Now, I don't mean to scare you but I don't know if a creditor has the right to close a consumer's account if they see something that they don't like on your report like a collection, charge-off, or multiple late payments. I have not heard of anything like that happen before but if a creditor was to do that, it would most likely be AMEX. But, if a creditor was to see something like that, they might think twice before they give you a CLI or they will most likely raise your interest rate.
Good Luck

I've had a Target card since May 2007... I've only received one increase to $500... That was last July 07... My credit is better now... Does anyone know what's up with Target??... Also, I believe you have to apply for the Visa... No automatic upgrades anymore>>>

Try calling CS and tell them that you've had a card for a while assuming that you have a good payment history with them. Take a look at your options and if they refuse to help you out, ask for a manager.

No Upgrade After One Year. on 2008-12-06
Well its the holiday season again and after a year of having the card still no upgrade. I had tried for the Visa in store and was declined. Although it seemed the cashier did not know what she was doing because it almost seemed like she made me reapply for the card after I told her I was wanting to just upgrade. I was expecting to just answer those 5 questions I have heard others say they did in store for the upgrade. But this lady made me fill everything out like a new app. I don't think it was right. Oh well still love Target. I will wait and see if one day they'll just offer it to me.

All I can say is "Dont hold your breath" for this card to upgrade. Things are not the same anymore with creditors and Target has not been one of my friends when I was with them.
