brian23's review: Ok, I know since using this website, I applied to a couple of places (and this is adding inquiries to my credit file). But this is the last for a while. Macy's was actually the 1st credit card I ever got, and of course it was the 1st one that I messed up with. That was 7 years ago, and I have paid them back in full. Well, I was at the mall today (and I have applied to this store several times in the past) and I figured what the heck, why not give it a try. Sure enough, I got the $100 credit line and I plan to make this one grow. I know how good macy's is with increases, so I will make this one into a Visa card in no time. Just for the info, they pull from transunion and my FICO there is a 591 (this is actually my lowest). So for now, I will enjoy my new cards and get rid of the one's with high fees.

Yeah, you're right. Macy's is really good with CLI's. If I were you, I'd raise my limit pretty high and keep it that way because it will help your utilization. That's the beauty of store cards. Even though you can't use them everywhere, you can increase your limits higher than Visa and Mastercards which will help lower your utilization which will raise your score and help you get those Visa and Mastercards offered by the big banks. Take my advice and run with it!
Good Luck!

Congrats on your approval. Another thing you can do before moving on with the card is call customer service or go inside to ask for a higher limit increase. They are well known for raising your limit once they can better identify you.

Meya, thanks for the advice. So, when I get the card all I have to do is go into the store and ask for a higher CL? Sorry to make this redundent, but I am all new to this.

You don't need to go to the store. Call the number on the back of the card and tell them that you will be buying some new clothes and cologne for an upcoming relative's wedding and I can't do that with the limit you currently have. If they ask how much do you need, say about $400 or $500. See what they say and let us know.

Thanks for the response bro. But I have a question, do you think it is better to walk in and go to customer service or call by phone using the same words you asked him to say? With the initial cl that was offered to Brian, I have seen those limits bump in either way, walk in or call in. I was thinking that if he is already in the store, it might be a little better than calling-in since in-store cl's are higher than online or calls. This is why I walked into Lowe's, Macy's, and JcPennys. Tell me what you think!
We are going to get you through this Brian, either way it goes, we will have good answeres for you. I am just questioning to get you the best opinion through teamwork.

As A Former Employee Of Macys..... on 2008-05-26
If you want a credit line increase, go into the store. Just go to one of the cashier counters. The internal numbers from the cashier counters go directly to "Credit Analyst" not to regular customer service reps that handle billing and payments when you call the number on the back of the card.
Macys is more inclined to give CLI's while at the store, to encourage shopping.
Just my take...

Yea Macy's will give you good CLI's... Ive had my card now for a year now (opened in 5/2007) I started off with $300... Now Im up to $1200. Got a auto CLI of $300 after 3 billing periods and then I called them in April and asked them to raise my limit from $600 to $1200-he actually asked how much I wanted my CLI... He said I have you approved right now for $1k... I said lets do $1200... He came back a minute later and said your approved for the $1200... So definetely stick with them... Im going to call in Aug/Sept to see about another CLI lol!

CLI..Thanks HJM, Meya And Rockin35 on 2008-05-27
Well low and behold I took all your advice and went to the store today and after only having the card for the 3 days, called the credit center and said I wanted to use the card but keep my utilization low. They asked how much I wanted, and I said 500 (gotta always shoot for the highest... LOL). She came back to the phone and said 300 was all she could do and I had to wait 3 months to get more. So, many thanks to the 3 of you. Very much so appreciate it... PS, I only bought a bottle of cologne for 36 (after 15% discount). Gotta keep the utilization low. Lol

I'm happy for you and glad it worked out. Thanks for letting us know how thing went. Macys is generous, if you pay on time, they will give you an increase every 3 months. Again, have a good Week!!

Hey man, that's great news! If you can, pay off your balance in full every month and you will see this card grow with you. They gave you that $200 CLI because you still need to prove to them that you can make your payments on time. Once you establish a good history with them, they will give you a credit line enough to buy everything in the store! Lol
Good Luck

I think I'm pushing my luck. I called Macy's Credit Department today and they gave me a $250 increase, raising my CL to $750. I want to thank everyone here on FG for the great advise they've given! I've been in the rebuilding game for 2 yrs and wasn't seeing the results I wanted, but following this advise has helped tremendously!!!

Re: Approved on 2010-09-21
I just opened a Macy's Credit Card on August, 2010. My credit limit was only $300.00. Today on September 21, 2010 I called Macy's, and ask if I'm eligible for an increase. I didn't ask how much I want for an increase, but they increase it to $1000.00. I'm surprise, that they increase me more than half of my original limit. No complaints about that. I love shopping at Macy's, even though the apr is 24.50% but I always pay full each month so I won't get charge a lot of interest. Oh by the way, I used to messed up my credit and that's why my credit limit was $300.00. My credit score is getting better by months. :-)
Anyhow, what is your opinion about having a Macy's Credit Card?
