trinity3's review: I, as well, was approved for this one and not the regular store card. That is the one I wanted. Do anyone know why HSBC is doing this?

This is one of the HSBC Sub Prime cards so it is easier to obtain.

My Question on 2008-05-25
Just a comment its better to get the MasterCard because you can use it anywhere but I notice people want the store card.
I rather have flexibility than just best buy..
Any way Good luck to you,
Alex

If someone applies for the best buy store card, I believe they're interested in purchasing an appliance, television, or a big ticket item which offers no interest for 18 months or so. The Best Buy Mastercard won't do that and the limit on the store card is a lot higher than the Mastercard once you build a good payment history with them.
Trinity, try calling 800-395-6090 and explain to them your situation about how you applied for the store card and received the MasterCard instead. Let us know what happens so you we can help you out from this end.
Good Luck

Have The Store Card on 2008-05-25
When I applied, I did it on the store, and there's a different from for the regular store card.
it's a good thing that I was warned about this HSBC MasterCard with a low CL
i was approved with a FICO score of mid 600's
initial was 1800, which after months became 2500 then now it's $4,300.
the regular store card has a higher APR which is 22% if I'm not mistaken but with a high credit limit, i'll settle for this regular card

Hsbc Only Allows 3 Accounts on 2008-05-26
I also applied for the store card and got the MasterCard... The only problem now is that HSBC only allows 3 accounts with them and that is my third so now I can't get the store card!!! even if I were approved!

I Think I Know! on 2008-05-26
Well, it happened to me before, I applied for the store card and got the MasterCard with $79 annual fee so I called and canceled.
i think the reason is that they make more money with variable annual fees and higher apr on the MasterCard.

My apr for the Mastercard is 10.74%... Not bad compared to my Hooters card which is 22%! I paid the $79.00 and never use the card. Just ups my utilization.
