bramford's review: I was approved for their Platinum Select Card 6 months ago. I called them and asked for a credit line increase of 500 to 800, and I was approved within 2 hours. I called the next day and said that I really wish I could get your Citi CashReturns Card. The Rep. Said "do you want to convert your card?". I told her that my credit score was too low (598), and that I did not think that I would get approved for the conversion. She warned me that I would lose all of the "thank you points" if I convert to this card. I told her "Ok" go ahead give it a try, because I was almost 100% sure that they would deny my request. After a fews minutes of silence, I could not believe my ears as she said "Your conversion has been approved." THANK YOU CITI BANK, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

They wont even give me the time or day. This is another good example of what I mean by "Scores are not the only factor when applying for credit". Thanks for this info!

I have noticed that some decisions are also based on zip code demographics.

I have to agree with you. Citi bank is the best credit card company out there. I have two of their cards, one since 1988 and my AT & T universal card with Citi since 1992. It is also a good idea though not to do more then a few cards with any one bank, if they change their policy on cards, you can always close the one or two you have with them and move on to a more favorable bank.

FICO Banks on 2008-01-01
I don't know if Citi is a FICO Bank or not... GEMB is a FICO bank which will give you a credit card if you apply on the right day at the right time with a higher FICO... Sometimes they don't even pay attention to the collections on your acct or some of your debt, they look mostly at your score. Citi wont give me a card even though my scores are generally decent. I may look into this card though.

I haev heard this before. This is why I always looking at the credit pulls from a few site just to see the ratio of approvals vs denials from different demographic areas. FG is implementing this strategy as we speak, it will be a great factor when applying for credit.
You are also right Eric (ole buddie, ole pal) GEMB is a FICO bank and I am a living witness to having multiple, easy approval cards from them. When I sign applications I always look for the financial backer, if I see GE or GEMB, I am good to go...:)

Lookin At Several Citi Cards on 2008-01-13
I've held off applying for a Citi Cash Returns card due to the suggestions on this site, ie; "A FICO score of at least 787 is recommended for a higher chance of approval for the Citi CashReturns(SM) Card, but is not required."
I might try a lesser Citi Card and then try the conversion option later.
Good info re: the conversion and points warning.

BofA Is Better! on 2008-02-11
Bank of America owns Citi! Bank of America doesn't try to decrease CLI's like Citibank. Plus, Bank of America is respected by everyone and everywhere.

Did they ask for income documentation in order to give you the CLI or did they base it on your payment history with them? Oh yeah, congrats! Nice CL!

BOA does not own Citi! They are two separate banks. Citi is the largest issuer and has the biggest portfolio of Visa/Mastercards on the planet.
