derekjenkinson's review: I applied for this card on May 26th and was instantly denied, I called their customer service number to see what the reason for denial was and was informed it was due to "too many new accounts within 24 months". Chase pulled my Equinox credit report and my score at the time of application was 646. A little background about me is I had the Chase Freedom card almost 4 years ago that was a paid charged off, but surprisingly Chase didn't say anything about that. I have successfully rebuilt my credit after falling behind and having 15 credit cards charged off in 2011, my current cards include American Express Green, American Express Blue Cash Preferred, Citi Double Cash, Barclays Cash Forward MasterCard, and Wells Fargo Platinum Visa.

Over the years, Chase has changed their focus to people with very good credit. A 730+ FICO score is what I recommend to apply for most of their cards, with Slate being a small exception. Great job on rebuilding in such as short time!

During March 2016 Chase implemented officially or unofficially what they call the 5/24 rule that if you have acquired certain new credit card accounts during the last 24 months they will not open a new account for you. Recon does not seem to change the outcome. On other Blog sites much has been said about this new rule. Your in good company on the denial. Solution is to wait out and get your number of new cards under five in 24 months or move on from Chase. Who knows in the world of credit, they may change their rule next month?!

I had a Chase card a few years back and I wasn't very impressed with them. It seemed like they never gave you a really good CL and the APR was too high in my opinion. I don't think that I would let their denial upset me at all. There are much better credit card companies out there that have better rewards, lower APRs, and not so many rules.
