jega214's review: I have had my Macy's store card for several years now and I recently requested a credit limit increase. Called the car and the guy went throug my account and asked a few questions was told to give it till the next billing cycle and call back to request an increase. Said i should have no problem getting an increase. I called a Month or so later and the lady over the phone advised they would have to pull my credit file and was denied a Cli. Is there a way to get a credit increase without pulling your credit report? I know you can request it every 6 months is there an easier way to go about this? I really want a bigger credit line to even out the ratio.

The funny thing is that their store card is offered through Citi, which will normally work with you as far as getting a higher credit line, but the I've had the same results with this card. I've had mine about 2 years and one of the reasons I applied for it was because there were lots of reviews on here that told stories of automatic CLI's, or going from $200 to $2000, things like that.
When I applied I received a $200. Seven months later I asked for a CLI and it wet to $500 with a hard pull on Experian. That was before they even reported your credit limit to the CRA's. I still have the account open, but I don't use them. I haven't closed them just because I have been closing so many accounts lately. I would like to wait until my new accounts are at least a year old before I close this one. But, to answer your question I think the only way is through a hard pull. Keep it if its old, but otherwise check your scores and see if you qualify for something better, as far as expanding your available credit.
