I applied for this card last year, after being denied by citibank, capital one, and I believe BoA for student cards. I was searching for cards geared specifically towards students, as I was about to enter my freshman year of college, and this one popped up. I was not approved instantly, so I assumed like the rest of my applications I would receive my official denial letter in a couple of weeks. However, about a week and a half later, I received a call from discover wanting me to call them to discuss and verify information for credit application. I was one of those rare instances where they asked me for school information. I told them where I was going, what my intended major was, and my intentions for getting a credit card (to pay for plane tickets home!).
I had absolutely zero credit history when I applied for this card. They approved me for a CL of $750, with a yucky APR, but I tend to carry small to zero balances, so this doesn't affect me too much. They also had the intro APR of 0% for 9 months. My CL has since grown to $1350, and my credit score has shot up big time. I love the cashback benefits of this card and take advantage of them. I didn't realize at the time that I had scored with one of the most prime card companies out there, but now I do and am very grateful to Discover for giving me a chance!!!

WOW! Welcome to the FG Discover Card Club. Several of us were able to get a card since last summer. You are right this is a standup prime card. As you already know, they take care of you. Loyalty! Congrats on your fresh start and a CL increase to boot CL+! You might in the near future find one of the other majors will open the door to you with now that you have been establishing credit.

Congrats! It's nice to know that Discover opened the door for you. It can be hard to win the trust of the first lender. We have all been there.
