I received an offer in the mail for 16.99%APR but the on-line approval said 21.99%. I requested that my application be canceled because I don't agree with the 5% APR increase.

Who knows what trigger an offer in the mail for the lower amount....I do know it doesn't matter what the flyer says, the cc companies are going to go by what they see when they do a hard inquiry...

My guess is they did some sort of credit pre-screen for the offer and when you went on line there credit risk scoring model was set for different criteria. Thanks for the heads up. It is a shame you took a hard inquiry hit in the bureaus with no account to show for it!
