mandaren's review: I had a Dell card in 2004. I paid it off in less than a year and was never late. I tried to use my card recently and found that they had closed my account because I hadn't used it in over 2 years. I thought I would just reapply, but it turned me down.
Six months ago I had a credit score of 735. On my history I have a car loan that was open when I originally had a dell card but has since been paid off, my previous dell account, and an open account with JC Penney. My history shows no late payments, nothing negative, and the only inquiry that shows is where JCP checked before giving me a card.
Dell turned me down, saying I would receive a letter explaining why. It's been over a couple of weeks and I'm hoping it comes soon because I'm interested in knowing why. A friend of mine applied instead- who has a much lower score with a few outstanding debts, a number of late payments that are due even right now, and has filed bankruptcy that still shows on his report... And he was approved immediately. I do not understand why they would turn me down when my credit history is better than it was when I originally applied.
*I chose to recommend it because I had no trouble when I previously had the card.

It will probably show as "duplicate application" because you applied with JCP within the last 90 days. GEMB system does that sometimes. However if you u call a rep will override it.

I've applied for a Dell account before and been turned down with scores on all three bureaus over 700. So don't feel bad I think they're funny that way. As far as who the bank for the Dell account is it isn't GE money Bank it is CIT.

Macy- I have had my JC Penney account for over 6 months. I don't see how that would be a duplicate in any way?

Since you have clean reports and high scores, you should go to your local Best Buy store and apply for their store card. You shouldn't have any trouble getting approved for the card. Plus, you will be able to take advantage of their "No interest for 18 months" promo if you buy a computer.
Don't waste your time with the Dell card. My mother has had a Dell card for about five years now and the interest rate stinks (29.99%). Go to Best Buy, apply for the store card, and keep us posted. The reason why I recommend that you apply in store is because they can verify your identity on the spot.
Good Luck

After reading a previous review, I would go for the "recon" about your application. Talk to a senior rep, don't give up just yet.

Meya, she should really go for the Best Buy store card so we won't get stuck with the ridiculously high interest rate.

It's not GEMB or CIT, they recently changed to WebBank. I got a letter from them today stating why they turned me down.
Just my 2 cents.

It says turned down because of length of credit history & too many recent inquiries.

Ohwoody, it seems like you should let your current accounts age and not apply for new credit for at least a year or so. Most creditors, if not all, will deny you too for having short credit history/too many new accounts and too many inquiries especially in this credit environment.

I would go with the best buy card as well. I have had one for about 3 years now. I was wanting to get a Dell account as well but now I know that its through GEMB I cannot stand them and will never give them business again. My best buy card has been very generous with me I started out with a $2,000 limit and when I requested a CLI for a new computer they jumped it to $5,000. I have the one that you can only use at the best buy store and online not the MasterCard. It is through HSBC.
