mspiers's review: I have had this card for three weeks now and this is what happens EVERY weekend...
All of my transactions sit in pending and are viewable on my account homepage from saturday and sunday, then they are all processed on monday because most merchants banks aren't opened on sundays. Therefore, HSBC changes the transaction date to monday and the 2% is never rewarded. Even upon faxing of my receipt to the "customer service representative" Carolyn in Virginia, I am told that I need to take it up with the merchants bank. Somehow my sending them a copy of the receipt with the date is not a good enough proof of purchase date????? Shady business practice, poor customer service, horrible credit card with faulty rewards.
If my account webpage every Sunday night has all of my purchases in the pending state, the company should have smart enough IT employees to be able to flag those as 2% purchases.

It's True on 2009-07-22
It is the merchant's acquiring bank that holds on to the charges. If you take a really, really close look at the terms and conditions for the rewards it probably has something there about that.
I don't blame you for being upset, but I am sure they have covered themselves legally with that.

That SUCKS! on 2009-07-24
I am sure the previous poster is accurate on the legal side of it. But, common, really... It is suppose to be for the weekend. How could a cardholder capture the benefit of the card? Maybe not very often. The 2% is enticing... Now we see the real world! This makes me mad!!!

Doesn't Sound Like A Good Card! on 2009-09-02
HSBC has a Visa card that offers 2% anytime. It doesn't have a weekend limitation. I don't understand why anyone would want rewards on the weekend only! Unless that is the only time you spend any money. Just out of curiousity. I truly would like to know is there an advantage? That if you could have a card with the same rewards available anytime. What purpose would there be for the weekend card? It is interesting that a bank would issue a rewards program like this. Makes me wonder if I should discontinue my relationship with HSBC. They sound a little hokey!
