meya's review: Before I go any further, let me get a review in for the card. My HUSBAND sneaked and applied for this card with low 505-510 credit scores. Purchased a carton of cigarettes and could not afford to purchase his work boots because there was no money available on the card. The initial limit was $300, but $230 in fees was added, so it left him a balance to spend of $70. Good card for rebuilding if you have NO OTHER SOURCE left.
Customer service was available over the phone 5:50pm PST, and answered within 30 seconds. Surprised to see a statement before the card arrived, but I did not know that until today
Ooohh Lord, I got to tell you a story about this card. Hehehehehehehe... Are you ready? Hold your stomach and get ready for a hard core laugh.
I saw this card in my husbands wallet and I was like, "What the..." So I asked him how did he get this card, he went to tell me that after being approved for the HSBC (Re-builder Card) he felt like 1 card was not enough so he applied for another one. He saw that my sister applied last year and was approved for the FIRST PREMIERE card, he decided to do it himself. Well he was sent a pledge card. I have not seen this card until today in our database.
So anxious to pay ON-TIME with a due date of 5/18/2009, he decided to call in and make a payment because that is SUPPOSE to be the date you are suppose to pay. I tried to tell him it was going o be late if he did it today and he was going to get hit with fees, I been trying to tell him about the fees, but his response was, "You worry about your credit and I will worry about mines. I think you are jealous because I got a credit card, and I'm not going to be stupid to let you con me to MAX IT OUT!" Ohhhhh loooord, he called in, and was smiling across the phone, but all of a sudden, his smiles turned into a frown and he looked dead in my face. I feel to the floor laughing so hard, I spit my food out by choking too hard. Here is his response:
"What you tawking about me being late? Today is da due date and I'm cawlin in to pay ya."... Maaan look, what you tawkin about me owing a balance of $285 and all I got was a carton of [dang] cigs. I cudn get any [dang] work boots to work wit so I can pay yall crooked [behinds]. Dis is a rip off and I am gettn a credit lawya on yall."... He got quiet for a while with his mouthed dropped still looking in my face, then he said, "hold on foe a minute so you can tawk to my wife, she knows all about dis credit [stuff] and I am gonnna let her crack yo face... Here baby tawk to dese people." With my hands in the sky, I politely said, ooohhhh noooo, I will worry about my credit and you worry about yours you sneaky no good... That's what you get, now deal with it.
He gets back on the phone and says the last part before hanging up..."look let me tell yall somethin, I got the paper in my hand, and those fees said, that is how much it cost to process the card and get it to me, you did not say anything about me paying it. If that is the case, then why you only want $20?... He gets quiet again... Look, let me tell you somethin, I ain't never cheated on my wife, it seems like I did now that I just got [screwed] by you. So yall mean to tell me that I owe yall $285 for a carton of Marlboro's?" I tell you what, I am gonna send yall all yall money, after I take this card to the recycling company, and see how much I can get off of it, and I know [dang] well plastic don't cost that much. If I can get $230 for the processin, I will shake yoe hand and give ya every dime back, cause I know [dang] well you didn't waste no $230 processin dis card... Click!
OMG, my poor husband has not had credit on his own you all. The last time he was approved for a card, it was Rewards660 and Tribute. I had to get rid of those cards for him. I don't know what possessed him to apply for this card on his own. I am the one who applied for the HSBC card for him, but that was all he needed at this time. I am gonna pay it off (with his money) and put an alert on his cr. He is dumb when it comes to credit, he knows I am the one who handles everything.
So the moral of this story is, just when you think you are doing something slick, you might as well dig your own ditch!

Way to get him back Meya, and what a complete crock of **** with all those additional un-necessary fees.

I don't feel sorry for him, that is what he get. I am going straight to the corner store and get a money order and pay them off, because I do not want them knowing our account number.
I hear him now, in the back room with his cousin, telling him, Mannn remember that card I told you to get so we can have our own credit? It ain't no good, send it back. Well guess what Brian the cousin already maxed it out at the liquor store. I bet his wife don't know anything, so today, I am officially a snitch because I am going to tell her as soon as she gets home.
Those fees should hit them all upside their heads, he knows I should have been informed about this. These creditors are just targeting those who can step above them, so they can take over and get all the money they can before they realize they upgrade to better cards.

This is excellent, Meya. First Premier sure knows who they can con. Like my brother. The fool had Chase and WaMu already and thought that a First Premier would be a good idea. Not.

Well it is the truth! I don't think he looked at nothing but the word approved, I just don't understand why he got the card.
Skeewee, I never understood the fees. When I started rebuiling, I would halt when I saw all of those fees involved in a card. I was desperate, but not that desperate. He could have used the money he is paying this company off with, and opened a secured card with bofa. This is the only thing that pissed me off. He learned his lesson, and now he claims that he don't think he wants to keep the HSBC card because they may do him the same way. Pledge did not do him wrong, he was just dumb enough to accept it. I

Meya you are right, there were other options available for him(secure cards), people need to understand that you are better off going to your local credit union or bank and getting a secure credit card threw them to establish credit is always a better option than dealing with company's like this...
Your husband is lucky to have you in his corner...

Almost Applied... on 2009-05-21
Yeah, I had looked at applying for this card too... Until I saw all those outrageous fees! I'm trying to rebuild my credit, but there is no way in hell that I'd apply for this card to do it. Your husband should have asked you for your opinion before appying for this card, but maybe he learned his lesson and will listen to you next time! ;)
